Note that I'm only including the first three films. All other entries have just moved ridiculously far away from what I think it's all about, to the extent that it's slightly depressing and hard to take seriously anymore.
The Philosopher's Stone is absolutely fantastic. All the characters are at their best and most likable, and I'd have to say it's the most fun, innocent film of all. By today's standards, some of the special effects look a little artificial, but hey, this was made back in the early 00's.
But I just have to give it to The Chamber of Secrets. It's the most well played, well-executed and well-acted film of all. It's also the most suspenseful, chilling and exciting. It's (surprisingly) a really dark, scary film. Moreso than the actual M rated entries such as Goblet and Order It even scared me more than a number of R or MA rated films ever have, which is something quite incredible if you think about it. Has the feel of a great, modern thriller. Gilderoy Lockhart and Madam Sprout are nice additions, and the characters in this film have a lot more depth (and clearly a lot more hormones).
The Prizoner of Azkaban is easily the least original or inventive of the three, and I rate both others above it, but it is not bad in any way. It has an almost completely different style, with a strong emphasis on humour (which is fine, but the first two movies had a nice sense of humour that I found quite refreshing). Not sure if it's just because there's a new director in this movie (there is, isn't there?) but this movie is easily the most visually beautiful and artistic movie of them all, a lot more sceneries than have ever been shown.
