It's not violent, it's not gruesome, it's not gory, it's just psychologically horrifying, and I don't actually think I can bring myself to watch this mere M rated film again. The reason I find it terrifying is because it's possibly the most realistic film I've ever seen (camera-work, acting, etc.), and I actually thought it was real when I first watched it (the Sci-Fi Channel took advantage of this.)

Same here. I watched it when I was twelve, in the dark, at 2AM, believing it was real. And it scared the freaking crap outta me. Great movie, but I'll probably never watch it again, haha.

It's not Exorcist-scary, but it's very subtle and haunting, and amazingly realistic. The last scene in particular. But horror is subjective.

Yes, I watched this recently and it just wasn't scary. I expect it would have been much more scary if I had've watched this when I was younger and thought it was real.
