I just started watching my array of season 10 episodes, after I purchased the boxset. And already, as the second episode I watched, a have a feeling that I may feel like quitting the box. This episode was terrible, bottom ten episode. I mean, it had a monstrously awful subplot, packed with useless guest stars, and it failed to be a successful gagfest, since the jokes just plain sucked. F.

Eh, it was okay. I even laughed a few times, but you're mostly right. It's so far up Scully's ass that it's reached his repressed trauma. And that last scene was funny, but is absolutely no excuse for having 20 minutes of boring, wasted potential. If anything, it makes it tonnes worse seeing as it shows that they know what's wrong with it, yet they do absolutely nothing about it.
4/10.

the idea of the episode isnt inherently bad - its quite seinfeldish in nature, which is never a bad thing. however, the wit and spark of seinfeld episodes consisting of witty dialogue and subtle observations external to the otherwise boring plot (parking garage, for instance) is sacrificed instead for throwaway gags and a pointless farcial look at homer and friends playing around with one another in a fairly juvinille manner. the subplot didnt help things much given that the idea of marge and lisa painting eggs isnt anything to write home about anyway. actually, the fact that they were painting eggs of all things is concrete proof that it was simple and floppy filler material.
a decent idea that fails in execution and ends up notoriously vanilla flavoured. D
